THE DETAILS:

NOTE: The index by itself is NOT tradable. The model plans here based on the  S&P index level can be used to trade any instrument that tracks the index – the futures on the index (ES, ES-mini), the options on the futures (ES options), the SPX options, the ETF SPY are just a few examples of the instruments one can adapt these plans to.

The trades given below are not reflective of or indicative of any specific outcomes for any specific individual – your  exact results would vary widely, depending on the time frame you use – tick chart, 1-min chart, 5-min chart, 15-min chart etc, as well as the quality of the execution of your broker, the stop levels you use based on your risk tolerance and your trading style.

These plans and results are hypothetical and NOT an investment advice to buy or sell any specific securities but are intended to aid – as informational, educational, and research tools – in arriving at your own investment/trading decisions. Please read the full disclosures at the bottom of this article for additional notes and disclaimers..

Medium-Frequency Models – Trading Plan Outcomes/Results:

The index crossed above the 2968 level around 10:30am, triggering a long with a 10-point trailing stop. The long reached an interim high of 2969.20 in the next few minutes, lifting the trailing stop to 2959.20. The stop was hit around 11:40am, closing the position with a loss of 8.80 index points.

The index crossed the 2968 level again around 3:35pm, triggering another long with a 10-point trailing stop. The long reached the session high of 2973.20 at the close lifting the trailing stop to 2963.20, and is being carried into the next session.

Note: For the trades to trigger, the breaks should occur during the regular session hours starting at 9:30am ET. By design, these models do NOT open any new positions after 3:45pm. Only one open position at any given time.

Aggressive Intraday Models – Trading Plan Outcomes/Results:

The index broke below the 2963 within the first couple of minutes, triggering a short entry with a 7-point trailing stop. The index broke below the 2960 level and then above it around 9:35am, closing the short (#1) for a gain of 3.00 index points and simultaneously opening a long(#1) with a 7-point trailing stop.

The index broke above and then below the 2963 level around 9:40am, closing the long with a gain of 3.00 index points and simultaneously opening a short(#2) with a 7-point trailing stop.

The index broke above the 2966 level around 10:30am, closing the short with a loss of 3.00 index points and simultaneously opening a long(#2) with a 7-point trailing stop.

The index broke below the 2963 level around 11:35am, closing the long with a loss of 3.00 index points and simultaneously opening a short(#3) with a 7-point trailing stop.

The index broke above the 2960 level around 11:40am, closing the short with a gain of 3.00 index points and simultaneously opening a long(#3).

The index broke below the 2963 level around 11:50am, closing the long with a gain of 3.00 index points and simultaneously opening a short(#4).

The index broke above the 2960 level around 1:05pm, closing the short with a gain of 3.00 index points and simultaneously opening a long(#4).

The long survived the 7-point trailing stop till the session close, and was closed by the models at the end of the 3:55pm bar (as per the intraday mandate) at 2970.20, with a gain of 10.20 index points.

Thus, the aggressive intraday models lead to a total of eight trades (four long and four short) with a net gain of 19.20 index points (+3.00 +3.00 -3.00 -3.00 +3.00 +3.00 +3.00 +10.20) for the day.

Note: For the trades to trigger, the breaks should occur during regular session hours starting at 9:30am ET. Due to the intraday nature of these aggressive models, they indicate closing any open trades at 3:55pm and remaining flat into the session close. No opening of new positions after 3:45pm. Only one open position at any given time.

NOTE: Remember that a “trailing stop” works differently from the traditional stop-loss order. Please bear in mind that the trailing stop’s trigger level would keep changing throughout the session (click here to read on the conceptual workings of a trailing-stop).
