Earnings Exuberance?
After registering the session low of 4162.90 in yesterday’s session S&P 500 appears to be on an attempt to rebound, apparently powered by the earnings from Meta/FaceBook and on anticipation of earnings from Amazon and Apple. How long this may last is anybody’s question. Our positional models will avoid going long while the index is below 4340 on a daily close basis.
Positional Trading Models: Our positional trading models are currently sporting a neutral bias. A daily close above 4340 will turn the models to a long bias, and a daily close below 4200 will make them take a short on the close.
Intraday/Aggressive Models indicate the trading plans below for today:
Trading Plans for THU 04/28:
Aggressive Intraday Models: For today, our aggressive intraday models indicate going long on a break above 4303, 4285, 4265, 4202, or 4173 with a 9-point trailing stop, and going short on a break below 4290, 4261, 4193, 4170, or 4152 with a 9-point trailing stop.
Models indicate long exits on a break below 4315 or 4280, and short exits on a break above 4157. They also indicate a break-even hard stop once a trade gets into a 4-point profit level. Models indicate taking these signals from 09:36am ET or later.
By definition the intraday models do not hold any positions overnight – the models exit any open position at the open of the last bar (3:59pm bar or 4:00pm bar, depending on your platform’s bar timing convention).
To avoid getting whipsawed, use at least a 5-minute closing or a higher time frame (a 1-minute if you know what you are doing) – depending on your risk tolerance and trading style – to determine the signals.
